Data Protection Under Indian Law
DTDC Packers and Movers (IBA Code: MUO-2547) operates under India's Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. Every shipment tracked via our real-time GPS monitoring system generates personal data — your name, contact details, delivery address, and shipment contents. We encrypt this data at rest and in transit using 256-bit SSL protocols. Your Shipment ID is your secure reference; never share it with unverified third parties.
What Personal Information We Collect
During Booking and Packing
When you request a quote or book a move within our 100+ city network, we collect:
- Your full name, contact number, and email address
- Pickup and delivery addresses, including pincode
- Inventory details (furniture dimensions, vehicle type, etc.)
- Payment information (GST registration if applicable)
- Identification documents for corporate clients
Our verified crew members photograph your goods before packing. These images are stored locally on encrypted tablets and synced to our server only after your consent during the handover process.
During Transit and Delivery
Our closed-body fleet generates live ETA and GPS coordinates every 15 minutes. This data includes driver identity, vehicle registration, and real-time location — all tied to your Shipment ID. WhatsApp and SMS updates automatically contain your coordinates and estimated arrival window at cities like Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Pune. We do not share raw GPS logs with third parties without your written consent.
How We Use Your Data
Tracking and Delivery
Real-time tracking is the core function. Your data powers our transparent logistics platform — the dedicated tracking dashboard for corporate clients lets authorized team members view live updates. If your shipment moves through GST-compliant states (e.g., interstate moves attracting 5% IGST), we retain billing data for compliance audits.
Communication
We send updates via SMS and WhatsApp using your consent. Frequency is capped at one message per location change or every 4 hours, whichever is less frequent. Unsubscribe links appear in every message. Our call centre at +91 99110 76600 records calls for quality assurance only — recordings are archived for 90 days and then deleted.
Claims and Insurance
Our comprehensive transit insurance with 7-day claim settlement requires shipment photos, GPS logs, and delivery signatures. This data is shared only with our underwriting partner for damage assessment. Claim settlements processed in cities across Maharashtra (Pune 411001), Karnataka (Bangalore 560001), and Tamil Nadu (Chennai 600001) all follow this protocol.
Data Retention and Deletion
| Data Type | Retention Period | Reason |
| Shipment tracking logs | 3 years | Insurance claim disputes, regulatory audits |
| Customer contact details | 5 years | GST compliance, reference history |
| GPS coordinates (raw) | 6 months | Post-delivery verification only |
| Payment receipts | 7 years | Income tax and GST statutory requirement |
| Call centre recordings | 90 days | Quality control, then auto-deleted |
After retention expires, data is securely wiped using DoD 5220.22-M standards. You may request deletion of non-statutory data by contacting +91 99110 76600 with your Shipment ID. We will confirm deletion within 30 days.
Third-Party Sharing
Who We Share Data With
Your data is shared only with:
- Logistics partners — Authorized sub-contractors handling your goods within our 100+ city network (e.g., last-mile delivery in residential societies like DLF Pinnacle, Gurgaon 122001)
- Insurance providers — For transit damage claims under our comprehensive coverage scheme
- Government agencies — GST authorities, customs (for interstate moves), and law enforcement (upon legal notice)
- Payment gateways — Only tokenized transaction IDs, not full card details
We never sell your contact list to marketing agencies or brokers. Non-IBA local movers and online aggregators often monetize customer data; we do not.
International Data Transfer
DTDC Packers and Movers does not store or transfer personal data outside India. All servers are located in ISO 27001-certified data centres within Indian jurisdiction. If your move involves NRI documentation, such data is encrypted and stored only for the duration of your shipment.
Your Rights Under Indian Law
Right to Access
You may request all personal data we hold about you. Email [email protected] with your Shipment ID. We will provide a downloadable copy within 30 days, free of charge.
Right to Correction
If your address, phone, or delivery details are incorrect, notify us immediately at +91 99110 76600. Corrections to GPS logs or tracking history cannot be made (to preserve audit trail integrity), but your profile data will be updated in real time.
Right to Opt-Out
You can disable SMS/WhatsApp updates by replying "STOP" to any message. However, real-time tracking cannot be suspended — it is mandatory for transit insurance and safety verification. Our IBA Code MUO-2547 compliance requires continuous monitoring.
Security Measures
Our closed-body fleet uses GPS trackers in sealed compartments. Driver credentials are background-verified and tied to tamper alerts. All dashboards use multi-factor authentication (OTP via SMS). Payment data is PCI-DSS Level 1 compliant — we never store full card numbers. In the event of a data breach affecting ₹5,000 or more in potential losses, we will notify affected users within 72 hours per IT Act Section 43A.
Dispute Resolution and Jurisdiction
Any disputes regarding data protection or privacy will be governed by the laws of India. Our registered office for legal correspondence is in Delhi (GST Reg: coming via partner filings). For complaints, escalate to:
- Customer Care: +91 99110 76600 (Monday–Saturday, 8 AM–8 PM IST)
- Privacy Officer: [email protected] (response within 10 business days)
- Grievance Authority: Consumer Disputes Redressal Centre, Delhi Jurisdiction (under Consumer Protection Act, 2019)
Policy Updates
We update this privacy policy annually or when Indian data protection law changes (e.g., new rules from MeitY). Updates take effect 15 days after posting on this website. Continued use of our transparent logistics platform constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. For major changes affecting tracking or data sharing, we will send a WhatsApp notification to your registered number.

FAQs
Does DTDC share my GPS tracking data with third parties?
No. Your real-time shipment location, tracking ID, and live ETA are visible only to you, our operations team, and your assigned crew. We never sell or share GPS coordinates with external platforms, aggregators, or advertisers. Data is encrypted end-to-end and deleted 90 days post-delivery unless you request archival for insurance claims.
How long do you retain my personal details after delivery?
Contact information (phone, address, email) is retained for 2 years to process warranty claims, transit insurance settlements, and service feedback under Indian contract law. Payment records are archived per GST compliance rules (7 years). You can request deletion anytime via email to [email protected] with your shipment ID.
Is my payment information encrypted on your tracking dashboard?
Yes. Our corporate tracking dashboard uses 256-bit SSL encryption (HTTPS). Payment details (card, UPI, bank transfer) are processed via PCI-DSS Level 1 certified gateways only—DTDC servers never store full card numbers. All transactions are logged for GST invoice generation and 7-day claim settlement proof.
What data do your background-verified crews access during packing?
Crews see only operational data: inventory list, pickup/delivery address, shipment weight, and packing instructions. They do not access financial details, identity proof scans, or payment information. All crew access is logged and monitored via our real-time fleet management system. Misuse results in immediate termination and legal action.
How do you protect my data if I book via WhatsApp or SMS?
WhatsApp messages and SMS updates are end-to-end encrypted natively by Meta and your telecom provider, respectively. DTDC does not store message content on servers—only shipment status (in-transit, delivered, etc.) is archived. Sensitive details like payment links are sent via secure email, never SMS or WhatsApp.
Can I opt out of SMS/WhatsApp tracking updates?
You can disable non-critical updates (marketing, promotional) anytime by replying 'STOP' to our SMS or WhatsApp. However, critical updates (pickup confirmation, delivery OTP, claim status) cannot be disabled—these are legally required for transit insurance and GST documentation under Indian Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
What happens if DTDC's system is hacked or breached?
We maintain cyber liability insurance (₹5 crore coverage) and notify affected customers within 48 hours of breach discovery per Information Technology Rules, 2000. You'll receive details of compromised data, free credit monitoring (12 months), and legal remedies. Report any suspected breach to [email protected] or call +91 9911071177.
Do you comply with India's data protection laws (DPDP)?
Yes. DTDC Packers and Movers complies with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP), 2023, IT Rules 2000, and IBA guidelines (Code MUO-2547). Your data is classified, encrypted, and accessible only to authorized personnel. Annual third-party audits confirm compliance. Detailed audit reports available upon written request.
